What are Motul Additives?

Since tearing the engine apart every time you want to clean these critical components is impractical, we’ve devised a line of additives that can be added to engine oil, fuel, or elsewhere to get the job done.

How do Motul Additives Work?
We’ve designed our line of additives to be as surgical as possible in terms of their effect. Each product in this lineup has a mission of its own, whether it’s to clean your hydraulic lifters, clean your valves, or even clean your radiator.
Our additives achieve these results by adding certain compounds to your fuel, oil or coolant, and then using these fluids as a catalyst to reach deposit buildups, no matter where they are.
When you use Motul additives, you’re not adding a potentially damaging substance to your oil/fuel/coolant. On the contrary. Once our additives do their job, they will blend into the surrounding lubricant/fuel.

Motul Additives — The Complete Lineup
Our additives are divided into four groups:
- Gasoline additives
- Engine oil system additives
- Diesel additives
- Transmission, cooling, and throttle body additives
Gasoline Additives
Fuel covers a lot of distance by the time it reaches your engine. It passes through one or more fuel pumps, a variety of fuel lines, and other components until it finally reaches your intake valves.
Since it travels at relatively high pressure, fuel is a good vessel for additives to use. As it turns out, your engine builds up all kinds of oxidation and other deposits inside the fuel system. Some of this buildup is a result of poor fuel quality, while some deposits are normal depending on the design of your engine.
We’ve developed our Fuel System Clean additive to give your fuel a strong cleaning power, which disperses water condensation and removes any residues from your fuel system.
On the other hand, our Valve & Injector Clean is also added to the fuel, but its job is slightly different. By cleaning valves and fuel injectors, this additive helps improve your fuel efficiency while restoring optimal fuel flow.
Engine Oil System Additives
Despite the efficiency of cutting-edge engine lubricants such as our 8100 series, you’ll sometimes find a buildup of deposits and contaminants in various parts of the engine.
Our Engine Clean is a custom-tailored formula whose main job is to get rid of these deposits and ensure that your engine is running as smoothly as possible. This additive cleans residue from piston grooves and acts to further reduce friction between the piston rings and cylinder walls. Overall, the result is more efficient combustion and hence a better running engine.

Diesel Additives
Our diesel-based additives come in two forms — Diesel System Clean and DPF Clean. Both of these are designed specifically to cater to the needs of modern diesel engines.
Diesel System Clean works by eliminating unwanted contaminants from your vehicle’s fuel system, but also the fuel itself. This is a great choice for diesel owners who want to extend the life of their injectors and other high-pressure fuel system components in their car or truck.
The DPF Clean works by reducing the overall amount of soot that is reaching your DPF. By doing so, it makes regeneration cycles easier on the car, while also improving the efficiency of this process.
Transmission/Cooling/Throttle Body Additives
Lastly, we have the Automatic Transmission Clean, Radiator Clean, and Throttle Body Clean, which form a little group of their own.
Automatic Transmission Clean is an additive designed to be added to AT fluid. It works in all types of automatic gearboxes, including modern CVT and DCT systems. As it circulates through the transmission, this additive removes various deposits as well as any contaminants that end up in the AT fluid.
Radiator Clean is a product designed to clean the often sensitive cooling system internals. It is a non-aggressive cleaner that will remove oxidation and scaling from both metallic and plastic parts of your cooling system.
Last but not least, we have the Throttle Body Clean. This is a standard throttle body cleaner product that we’ve tweaked to be extra effective in removing carbon buildup and other deposits from your car’s intake system.
